The Powerball prize pool has swelled to an astounding estimated $1.55 billion for the upcoming Monday night’s draw, following several weeks without a grand prize winner.

The winning numbers for Monday night were 16, 34, 46, 55, 67, with the Powerball being 14.

This colossal jackpot ranks as the third largest in Powerball history and the fourth largest among all US lottery jackpots, as per Powerball’s official website. The fortunate player who matches all six numbers for the jackpot will face a monumental decision: to opt for an annuitized prize estimated at $1.55 billion or a lump sum payment projected at $679.8 million – both amounts are pre-tax, according to Powerball.

The grand prize saw an increase on Saturday as no ticket managed to match all six numbers drawn, which were 47, 54, 57, 60, 65, and the red Powerball was 19.

Since July 19, when a solitary ticket sold in California secured a grand prize of $1.08 billion, there have been no Powerball jackpot winners.

The forthcoming draw will mark the 35th in this jackpot streak. It stands as the first occasion in Powerball’s history where consecutive cycles have yielded billion-dollar grand prizes, as stated in a news release by Powerball.

Although no one clinched the jackpot in the previous draw on Saturday, there were still significant wins. Ten tickets matched five numbers, securing $1 million prizes in states including California, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Additionally, two tickets, sold in Iowa and Maine, matched all five white balls and pocketed $2 million each because their holders activated a “power play” multiplier, as reported by Powerball. Overall, the odds of winning a prize stand at 1 in 24.9, but the odds of snagging the jackpot are substantially slimmer, at 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball.

The largest Powerball Jackpot ever won was an astounding $2.04 billion prize in November 2022, followed by a $1.586 billion jackpot secured in January 2016.
